Responding to the chants, Udhayanidhi made a remark in Tamil with a mention to the Cauvery river project that he later clarified was about the need for Cauvery water to reach Tamil Nadu. His supporters cheered and hooted on his response. However, because the statement came immediately after the crowd mentioned Trisha, several political parties and social media users alleged that the comment carried a double meaning and was inappropriate.
