Chennai/Mamallapuram, March 7, 2026 — Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder and president Joseph Vijay on Saturday unveiled a comprehensive package of welfare measures aimed at empowering women, children, and families, promising their implementation if his party comes to power in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Addressing the party’s International Women’s Day celebrations in Mamallapuram near Chennai, the actor-turned-politician outlined schemes covering financial support, health, education, safety, and mobility — positioning them as part of a “graft-free super-good regime.”

The announcements include:

Monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 to women (described variably as family heads or all eligible women except government employees) up to the age of 60.
Six free LPG cylinders per year for every household under the proposed Annapurani (or Annapoorani) Super Six Scheme, aimed at easing the domestic fuel burden.
Free sanitary pads for girl students and women, to be distributed through ration shops, schools, and colleges as a public health initiative for menstrual hygiene.
One sovereign of gold and a silk saree as a wedding gift to young women under the Annan Seer marriage support scheme.
Annual ₹15,000 financial aid to every mother or guardian of school-going children (Classes 1 to 12) under the Kamarajar Kalvi Uruthi Thittam (or Kamarajar Education Assurance Scheme) to prevent dropouts.

Additional promises focus on safety and mobility:

- Free bus travel for all women in state government buses under the Vetri Payanam (Victory Journey) scheme.
- Installation of smart panic buttons in public transport and share autos, linked to a 24×7 command centre.
- A dedicated women’s safety and welfare department, a special Rani Velu Nachiyar police unit with zero tolerance for crimes against women, fast-track courts (Anjalai Ammal Super Fast Women’s Courts), and 500 safety teams statewide.
- Interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh for women’s Self-Help Groups to promote entrepreneurship.
- A newborn welfare kit including a gold ring, baby products, and nutritious items for every child born in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay described the measures as achievable through clean governance and criticised the ruling DMK for alleged corruption, claiming 30 per cent of the state budget was lost to “loot.” He urged supporters to focus on people’s issues ahead of the polls.

The promises come weeks after Chief Minister M K Stalin’s government credited ₹5,000 (including a summer special) to over 1.3 crore women under the existing Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam and announced plans to double monthly aid to ₹2,000 if re-elected — moves TVK has dismissed as poll-time panic.

TVK, which is gearing up for its maiden Assembly contest in 2026, is expected to release its full manifesto soon. Party workers at the Mamallapuram event cheered the announcements, hailing them as a direct response to women’s daily struggles with health, fuel costs, education, and safety.

Political observers see the focus on women as a strategic bid to consolidate female voters, who form a significant chunk of Tamil Nadu’s electorate. Whether these “Super Six” and other schemes translate into votes will be tested in the months ahead.
