Trump threatens to ‘blow up’ all of Iran’s South Pars gasfield if Tehran strikes Qatar

In his post, Trump declared: "NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar — In which instance the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before."

Washington, March 19, 2026 — U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Wednesday, threatening to "massively blow up the entirety" of the South Pars gas field — the world's largest natural gas reserve — if Tehran carries out further attacks on Qatar's energy facilities.

The statement came via a post on Truth Social, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following an Israeli strike on part of Iran's South Pars field earlier in the day. Iran retaliated by launching missile attacks on energy infrastructure in several Gulf states, including Qatar's massive Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas (LNG) complex, causing extensive damage but no reported casualties, according to Qatari officials.

Trump distanced the United States from the initial Israeli operation, insisting that Washington "knew nothing" about the strike in advance and that Qatar — which jointly develops the South Pars/North Field reservoir with Iran — was also unaware and uninvolved. He described Israel's action as having "violently lashed out" at the facility "out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East."

He added that he did not wish to authorize such destruction due to its long-term implications for Iran but would not hesitate if Qatar's LNG facilities were targeted again.

The South Pars gas field, straddling the Persian Gulf maritime border between Iran and Qatar, is a critical global energy asset, supplying a significant portion of both nations' natural gas exports. Any large-scale damage could have severe repercussions for worldwide energy markets, with oil prices already surging in response to the recent attacks on regional infrastructure.

Trump's remarks drew immediate attention from international observers, with some viewing them as an attempt to deter further Iranian escalation while pressuring Israel to de-escalate strikes on the shared field. Iran has yet to publicly respond to the U.S. president's direct threat, but its Revolutionary Guard Corps previously vowed to target Gulf energy sites in retaliation for attacks on its facilities.

The developments mark another flashpoint in the ongoing regional conflict involving Israel, Iran, and U.S. allies in the Gulf, raising fears of broader disruption to global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. Pentagon officials have not commented on potential U.S. military preparations, and diplomatic channels remain strained.
