New Delhi [India], June 2 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar, who is slated to take oath tomorrow, has said that the opportunity to serve the state in the top political post was "delayed but not denied" and that he will seek to take along all sections of society in the journey to take the state forward.

“Though It Has Been Delayed, It Was Not Denied”: DK Shivakumar on Becoming Karnataka Chief Minister

Karnataka Chief Minister-designate D. K. Shivakumar on Tuesday said that his elevation to the top post in the state had been “delayed, but not denied,” marking the culmination of a long political journey within the Congress party.

Speaking ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, Shivakumar reflected on years of political struggle, patience, and loyalty to the party leadership. His statement is being widely seen as a reference to the prolonged leadership tussle within the Karnataka Congress following the party’s victory in the 2023 Assembly elections.

Shivakumar, who has served as Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, was unanimously elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), paving the way for him to become the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. (The Times of India)

The Congress high command finalized the leadership transition after extensive consultations with senior leaders, including outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and party leader Rahul Gandhi. Reports indicate that discussions also focused on cabinet formation and maintaining unity within the state unit. (The Times of India)

Known as the Congress party’s “troubleshooter,” Shivakumar played a key role in safeguarding the party during several political crises over the years. He has been credited with managing crucial political negotiations and strengthening the Congress organization in Karnataka. (NDTV Profit)

Political observers believe Shivakumar’s appointment reflects the Congress leadership’s effort to balance caste equations, regional representation, and internal party dynamics ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections. However, analysts say his tenure could face challenges, including managing factional interests within the party and balancing welfare commitments with economic growth priorities. Ahead of taking oath, Shivakumar also thanked the Gandhi family for supporting his political rise and expressed confidence in delivering a progressive and inclusive administration for Karnataka. (The Times of India)

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place in Bengaluru with several senior Congress leaders likely to attend. The Karnataka government has already announced a half-day closure of offices around Vidhana Soudha to facilitate arrangements for the event. (m.economictimes.com)
