Two months into his tenure as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, actor-turned-politician CM Vijay has announced a 25 per cent salary hike for employees working at TASMAC outlets, in a move aimed at addressing corruption concerns and preventing customers from being overcharged for liquor purchases.

The salary revision is part of the Chief Minister’s broader efforts to bring reforms to the functioning of state-run liquor shops across Tamil Nadu.

According to the Tamil Nadu government, the pay revision is intended to address the long-standing issue of TASMAC staff allegedly collecting an additional Rs 10 per bottle from customers, a practice that has frequently drawn complaints from liquor buyers.

TASMAC Employees Get First Pay Revision In 20 Years

Tamil Nadu Minister for Prohibition and Excise K Vignesh said the salary hike is designed to remove the motivation for employees to overcharge customers while ensuring better accountability at TASMAC shops, India Today reported.

The government stated that the revised pay structure will not only help reduce corruption but also improve the welfare of TASMAC workers.

The minister further highlighted that TASMAC employees had not received a salary revision in the last 20 years. Further details regarding the implementation of the revised pay structure are expected to be announced at a later stage.
