Tamil Nadu New CM Oath Ceremony LIVE Updates: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Chandrashekhar Joseph Vijay is set to take an oath as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister today, after days of uncertainty over the government formation in the state. It took Vijay five days, four meetings, and multiple negotiations with several allies to touch the majority mark in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
The popular actor-turned-politician earned victory by winning 108 out of 234 seats in the April 2026 elections. He met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Saturday and claimed the support of five MLAs of Congress, two lawmakers of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and two each from the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
The governor also laid out the immediate constitutional steps that follow.
“The governor has directed the Chief Minister-designate to seek the vote of confidence of the Assembly on or before May 13, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Nehru Stadium, Chennai, on May 10, 2026, at 10am,” added the statement.
Vijay will take the oath at 10 am at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai to give Tamil Nadu the first non-DMK, non-AIADMK government in nearly 60 years.
