Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai Lambasts Bengaluru Traffic Woes, Brands Police 'Useless' Amid Airport Rush

Rai, who was en route to Kempegowda International Airport, shared his ordeal on X (formerly Twitter), posting a screenshot of multiple unanswered calls to traffic helplines as evidence of the authorities' unresponsiveness. "Hon’ble @CMofKarnataka I m sorry but you have the worst traffic management, and most irresponsible, useless traffic police. They don’t even pick up phone calls... Last one hour we are stuck at same place in Rajkumar samadhi road, going to miss flight, tomorrow I have to attend parliament session. Not a single police man is seen around," Rai wrote in the post, which has since garnered over 1,700 likes and hundreds of reposts.

Bengaluru, December 1, 2025 – In a scathing social media outburst, Samajwadi Party (SP) Member of Parliament Rajeev Rai on Sunday vented his frustration over Bengaluru's notorious traffic congestion, labeling the city's traffic management as the "worst" and its police force as "irresponsible and useless." The Ghosi MP's tirade came as he found himself immobilized on Rajkumar Samadhi Road for over an hour while racing to catch a flight to Delhi for the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

He went on to tag Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G Parameshwara, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, and Joint Commissioner of Traffic M.N. Anucheth, urging immediate action. "These inefficient officers are enough to spoil the name and charm of this beautiful city. No doubt now Bengluru traffic has earned the reputation of most notorious traffic," Rai added, highlighting how such lapses tarnish the Silicon Valley of India's global image.

The incident unfolded around 7:03 PM IST on November 30, amid Bengaluru's perennial battle with gridlock, exacerbated by rapid urbanization, inadequate infrastructure, and a booming IT sector that draws millions of daily commuters. Despite investments in metro expansions and smart traffic systems, the city frequently tops global lists for congestion, with residents losing hundreds of hours annually to snarls.

Rai's comments echo long-standing grievances from locals and visitors alike, who often decry the lack of on-ground enforcement and responsive helplines. As of Monday morning, there was no official response from the tagged officials or the Bengaluru Traffic Police, though the post has sparked a flurry of supportive replies from netizens sharing similar experiences.

This is not the first time Bengaluru's traffic has drawn fire from high-profile figures. Earlier this year, celebrities and business leaders have publicly called for reforms, prompting the state government to announce plans for AI-driven signal optimization and additional flyovers. However, critics argue that implementation lags behind promises.

SP, a key ally of the Congress-led INDIA bloc, has maintained a low profile in Karnataka politics, making Rai's direct appeal to state leaders a rare intervention. As Parliament reconvenes, the MP's dash to Delhi underscores the high stakes, with key legislative agendas on the table.

Bengaluru's traffic labyrinth continues to test the patience of its 13 million inhabitants, but voices like Rai's may amplify calls for urgent overhaul before the city's reputation takes a permanent hit.
