Udupi, March 21, 2026:
A case has been registered against 38 activists of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike for staging a protest against the upcoming “Samadhana Mahotsava” prayer event in Udupi district.

The Christian prayer gathering, scheduled from March 20 to 22, is being organized under the leadership of evangelist Mohan C. Lazarus.

Prior to the event, Shrikanth Shetty, representing Hindu Jagarana Vedike, held a press conference opposing the program. He demanded that the district administration deny permission for the event, alleging that Mohan C. Lazarus is a controversial figure from Tamil Nadu. He also warned of strong protests if the program was not stopped.

Despite the event having received permission from the High Court, protests were carried out by Shrikanth Shetty and other activists. Police intervened, arrested the protesters, and registered cases against them for disrupting public order.

Meanwhile, leaders from the Christian community emphasized that Christians are peace-loving citizens who regularly pray for the welfare of the nation. They stated that such prayer meetings often attract people from multiple religions and have been conducted peacefully across Karnataka for many years under the leadership of Mohan C. Lazarus.

They further noted that large gatherings are common at these events, reflecting widespread participation and harmony among communities.

Staney Pinto, President of the Karnataka Christa Sanghatane  , expressed gratitude to the Udupi district police for ensuring protection and maintaining law and order during the event. He also thanked Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G. Parameshwara, and MLC Ivan D'Souza for facilitating the smooth conduct of the program.

Authorities have confirmed that adequate security arrangements are in place to ensure the event proceeds without disruption.
