More than 2.06 crore voters have not found their names in Maharashtra’s draft electoral roll released after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral records. According to the Chief Electoral Officer, 2,06,88,487 electors could not be accounted for during the enumeration process. This figure represents around 21.14% of the state’s earlier electorate of nearly 9.78 crore voters.

The revised draft roll currently has over 7.71 crore electors, including approximately 3.95 crore men, 3.75 crore women and 3,087 voters belonging to the third-gender category.
Officials said the unaccounted-for voters include people who were not found at their registered addresses, had moved to another location, were deceased, had duplicate registrations or had enrolled elsewhere. Those who did not submit their enumeration forms are also part of this category.
Among the districts, Pune reported the largest number of uncollected forms at around 28.6 lakh, closely followed by Thane with 28.5 lakh and Mumbai Suburban with 26.5 lakh. Nagpur recorded around 14.43 lakh cases, while Nashik had 10.27 lakh and Mumbai City around 9.5 lakh.
The Election Commission has now provided an opportunity for eligible voters whose names are absent from the draft roll to seek inclusion. The claims and objections process will remain open from August 31 to September 30.
Voters can use Form 6 to request the addition of their names, while Form 7 can be used to raise objections against electoral entries. Those seeking changes to details such as their name, address, age or gender can submit Form 8.
Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will examine the claims, objections and related notices between August 31 and October 29.
The final electoral roll is expected to be published on November 4, as per the Election Commission’s schedule.
