Udupi, Karnataka | March 19, 2026
A controversy has emerged ahead of the upcoming “Samadhana Mahotsava” prayer gathering in Udupi, with the Karnataka Christa Sanghatane strongly condemning alleged misinformation being circulated about the event.
Karnataka Christa Sanghatane State President Stany Pinto has criticized statements made by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike, calling them “baseless and divisive.” The event, scheduled from March 20 to 22 at the Christian PU College grounds, will be led by evangelist Mohan C. Lazarus.
According to Stany Pinto, the remarks made in media platforms are misleading and aimed at disturbing communal harmony. He warned that such narratives could create unnecessary tension in society.
Highlighting constitutional provisions, Stany Pinto stated that every citizen has the right to practice and propagate religion, and any attempt to spread hatred or misinformation is against the law.
He also pointed out that Lazarus has been organizing similar prayer gatherings in Karnataka for many years, attracting people from different communities who seek spiritual support and relief from personal challenges.
The association has urged the Udupi police authorities to initiate suo motu action against those responsible for spreading false claims. Additionally, it has requested adequate security arrangements to ensure the event proceeds peacefully.
The organizers reiterated that the “Samadhana Mahotsava” is intended solely to promote peace, harmony, and well-being, and appealed to the public not to be misled by rumors.
