Karnataka has notified a 60 per cent increase in minimum wages, a move expected to significantly boost earnings for workers across the State’s unorganised sector.
Under the revised rates, labourers in Bengaluru will receive a minimum monthly wage of ₹23,376, while skilled workers will be entitled to ₹31,114. Labour Minister Santhosh Lad said the revision fulfils a long-pending demand of workers and aligns with Supreme Court directives.
The government has also, for the first time, brought all 81 scheduled employments under a single wage notification.
The final notification, issued on Friday, comes more than a year after the draft of the revised minimum wages for 81 scheduled employments in the state was published on April 11, 2025. A variable dearness allowance for two years, amounting to ₹1,030, has been incorporated into the minimum wages. Karnataka is the third State in the country to notify revised minimum wages in recent months, after Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
In a post on X, Labour Minister Santhosh Lad said, “This notification will provide financial security to workers in the state’s unorganised sector and specific sectors. While determining the minimum wages, this revision has been carried out in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive.
Moreover, for the first time, all scheduled employments are being brought under a single notification, replacing the previous classification into four sectors. Overall, this revised wage will infuse new hope into the lives of lakhs of labourers working across the state’s 81 scheduled employments.”
