Security personnel keep vigil near Jantar Mantar (PTI)

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has de-notified Jantar Mantar as a designated venue for organising protests and demonstrations, following recommendations made by a committee constituted to examine alternative locations.

According to the decision, three new venues have been designated for holding protests and demonstrations: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi.

The committee was formed to identify suitable alternative venues to facilitate citizens' right to organise protests and demonstrations in place of the existing designated site at Jantar Mantar.

The Ministry stated that a detailed and revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for organising protests and demonstrations at the three newly designated venues will be issued separately.

Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party co-convener Ashutosh Ranka reacted sharply to the Delhi Police decision to de-notify and Jantar Mantar as the designated Protest Place, and putting up of three new protest sites away from the administrative epicenter of the national capital.
