who hoisted the national flag amidst cheers and the singing of the national anthem, “Jana Gana Mana.” Over 100 auto drivers, along with their families and local residents, gathered to participate in the event, which was marked by a sense of camaraderie and pride.
“This is our way of showing love for our country,” said Mr.Anil Kumar (Auto Driver Hubli) , addressing the crowd. “We may be auto drivers, but our hearts beat for India. Independence Day reminds us of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, and it’s our duty to keep their spirit alive.” The flag-hoisting was followed by a salute to the tricolor, with drivers standing in formation, many wearing tricolor badges and caps.
As part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the auto drivers decorated their vehicles with miniature national flags and tricolor ribbons. Many took selfies with the flags and uploaded them to the official Har Ghar Tiranga portal (harghartiranga.com) to receive their certificates of participation, a gesture that added a modern touch to the celebrations. “Hoisting the flag on our autos makes us feel like we’re carrying India’s pride with us wherever we go,” said Mr.Chana, a driver with over 15 years of service at the stand.
The event also featured a short cultural program, with children of the auto drivers performing patriotic songs such as “Vande Mataram” and “Sare Jahan Se Achha.” A group of drivers shared stories of India’s freedom struggle, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience in the face of challenges. “Our job is tough, but so was the fight for freedom. We draw inspiration from our history,” said  Narayana, another driver.
In line with the district’s broader Independence Day celebrations, the auto drivers’ event aligned with the guidelines announced by Dharwad District In-Charge Minister Santosh Lad. The minister had called for widespread participation in patriotic activities across Hubballi-Dharwad, with a focus on engaging the youth and fostering awareness about India’s freedom struggle. The auto drivers’ initiative was a grassroots reflection of this vision, showcasing how everyday citizens contribute to the national spirit.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the auto stand was adorned with tricolor balloons, banners, and rangoli designs depicting the Indian flag. Some drivers distributed sweets to passengers as a gesture of goodwill, while others offered free rides to elderly citizens and schoolchildren attending nearby Independence Day events. “It’s a small way to give back to the community that supports us,” said Mr.Divakar, a driver who participated in the free-ride initiative.
The celebrations at the Hubli Railway Auto Drivers’ Stand were not just a local affair but part of a larger wave of patriotic fervor sweeping across the nation. As India marks its 79th year of independence, the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign has inspired millions to hoist the national flag and celebrate the country’s unity and resilience. In Hubli, the auto drivers’ efforts stood out as a shining example of how ordinary citizens can come together to honor the nation’s extraordinary legacy.
The event concluded with a pledge to continue serving the community with dedication and to uphold the values of freedom, unity, and progress. As the sun set over Hubli Junction, the tricolor flags on the autos fluttered proudly, a symbol of the enduring spirit of India’s independence.

Jai Hind!
