Hubballi, March 25, 2026: Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar, along with the newly appointed DCP (Law and Order) Shruthi N.S. and Dharwad Region IOCL President Mr. Shantraj Koth, addressed a joint press conference today to allay public concerns regarding petrol supply and issue a stern warning against the circulation of misleading content on social media.

The officials stated that there is no shortage of petrol in the region and urged the public not to panic. Mr. Shantraj Koth assured that Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has sufficient stocks to meet the demand of the public in Hubballi-Dharwad and surrounding areas without any disruption.

Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar warned that anyone indulging in spreading fake videos or rumours about petrol shortages, especially those masking their profile IDs on social media platforms, will face strict legal action. He said the Cyber Monitoring Cell is actively tracking such activities, and offenders will be booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

“People should rely only on official sources for information. Spreading panic through fake news or anonymous accounts will not be tolerated,” the Commissioner emphasised.

The press conference comes amid recent concerns over fuel supply in parts of Karnataka. The presence of the new DCP (Law & Order) Shruthi N.S. at the event signals a strong focus on maintaining law and order while countering misinformation.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate and report any suspicious or fake content to the police. The Cyber Cell has been directed to monitor social media platforms vigilantly.

No immediate incidents of panic buying or disruptions were reported following the assurance.
