In the video, Sharma appears to warn locals to ensure that Khan does not intimidate others, adding that strict action would follow if the situation continued.
Sharma, known for his past role in Uttar Pradesh policing, was appointed as an observer by the Election Commission of India for the ongoing elections. The video quickly gained attention, drawing strong reactions from opposition leaders.
Akhilesh Accused
Akhilesh Yadav accused Sharma of acting as a “BJP agent” and questioned his neutrality. He claimed that such officials would be investigated in the future and face legal consequences if wrongdoing is proven. Yadav also alleged that certain individuals are working under the guise of officials while pursuing political agendas.
TMC Criticized
The Trinamool Congress also criticized Sharma’s appointment, pointing to past allegations linked to his career. In statements shared on social media, the party described him as an “encounter specialist” with a controversial record and raised concerns over his selection as an election observer.
Among the issues highlighted were earlier allegations, including a reported “cash-for-postings” case and other legal complaints. The party argued that such controversies call into question the impartiality expected from officials overseeing elections.
The situation has added to the already tense political climate in West Bengal, with parties trading accusations and raising concerns over fairness in the electoral process.
