Display of strength: Siddaramaiah plans massive AHINDA convention in Mysuru
Bengaluru: Efforts are underway by Ex Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s supporters to bring AHINDA leaders under one umbrella. A massive convention is tentatively planned in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah’s home district, on November 26 to demonstrate solidarity and showcase their political strength.
It may be noted that party insiders say Shivakumar, after assuming the Chief Minister’s post, has successfully sidelined Siddaramaiah and his close associates and is attempting to take control of the Congress party.
However, following the developments surrounding the sting operation case, Siddaramaiah, who had largely remained silent after stepping down as Chief Minister, is now preparing to reassert himself.
Insiders also revealed that he has expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s handling of the sting operation case in a one-on-one meeting with Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
The proposed convention is being seen as an attempt by the Siddaramaiah camp to reassert the strength of the AHINDA (Minorities, Backward Classes and Dalits) constituency following the party’s defeat in all four seats in the recent Legislative Council elections.
The initiative has gained significance as former minister and Congress MLA K.N. Rajanna has attributed the party’s electoral setback to the controversy surrounding the alleged sting operation involving Siddaramaiah.
Siddaramaiah is reportedly keen on mobilising AHINDA leaders and strengthening the social and political coalition that has been a key support base of the Congress in Karnataka. Rajanna has been meeting prominent AHINDA leaders as part of efforts to bring them together and bridge the differences.
Speaking about the initiative, Rajanna said he would make efforts to unite AHINDA leaders and resolve the misunderstandings that had developed among them.
