In a memorandum issued on September 3, the association expressed concern over an incident reported on August 24, when a Christian prayer meeting in Dharwad was allegedly disrupted by certain groups. The pastors said such incidents disturb peace and infringe upon the community’s constitutional right to practice religion.
Rev. Cedric Jacob, President of the association, stated that Christians in Hubballi-Dharwad have historically contributed to the city’s progress in education, healthcare, social service, and humanitarian efforts. He stressed that the community has always lived in harmony with people of other faiths and continues to uphold values of unity and brotherhood.
The memorandum highlighted two key demands: security for all Christian prayer meetings and worship centres, and allocation of suitable land for cemeteries, citing a shortage of burial grounds in the city.
“The Christian community in Dharwad sincerely appeals to the authorities to consider these concerns with seriousness and ensure religious freedom, harmony, and peace in the region,” the statement said.
The association also appealed to citizens to uphold tolerance and mutual respect, noting that interfaith harmony is essential for the social fabric of Hubballi-Dharwad.
