TVK condemns dragging of Rahul Gandhi
Tamil Nadu's ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has strongly condemned action against Rahul Gandhi in the national capital on Tuesday, saying that 'democracy was crushed' in Delhi. Gandhi, who staged a dharna near Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence amid students protest over NEET paper leaks was detained by police on Tuesday.
In a post on X, TVK said the way Rahul Gandhi was 'dragged' and carried away by Delhi Police as he joined the youth's non-violent protest was a blatant attack on the democratic rights.
Furthermore, the party said that exam at the centre of the protest lacks credibility, from the beginning and students face mental stress due to repeated paper leaks putting a big question mark on the future of the students.
The harm caused to students every year due to the NEET exam shows no sign of stopping. Therefore, we strongly demand that the Union government completely abolish the NEET exam, TVK added.
Tamil Nadu CM on NEET Exam
Following NEET paper leak in May this year, the Tamil Nadu CM Vijay reiterated his long-standing opposition to NEET and said that the exam disproportionately disadvantages students from rural areas, government schools, Tamil-medium backgrounds and economically weaker sections, and renewed its demand to abolish NEET and allow states to admit students to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses under the state quota based on Class 12 marks.
Rahul leads protests over NEET-issue
A day after massive demonstration by students over NEET related issues and police action against them, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday alleged that the government was "clearly" not interested in having a debate on the events of the July 20 Parliament march, which turned violent and therefore the opposition decided to protest outside the Prime Minister's residence to put the spotlight on the issues of the students.
Following this, Gandhi along with party workers held protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and demands of students.
In a video message released from Chhatrasal Stadium detention stadium, Gandhi revealed why the party staged a protest with a series of questions for government.
