Dalit Activists Stage Massive Protest in Hubballi, Demand Arrest of Accused in Hokrani Case

Hubballi: Activists of the Karnataka Dalit Vimukta Sanghatane staged a massive protest in Hubballi on Monday condemning the alleged assault and killing of a Dalit woman in Hokrani village of Sindhanur taluk in Raichur district.

The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of all those accused in the incident and urged the authorities to ensure a fair investigation and justice for the victim’s family.

Addressing the gathering, the activists alleged that atrocities against Dalits continue to be reported in different parts of Karnataka despite constitutional protections and laws aimed at safeguarding the rights of Scheduled Castes.

The protesters expressed concern over what they described as continuing incidents of violence, intimidation and discrimination against Dalit communities. They called upon the government and police authorities to take strict action against those responsible and ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

The activists also demanded adequate protection for Dalit families and effective implementation of laws intended to prevent atrocities against Scheduled Castes.

A large number of Dalit activists participated in the demonstration, carrying banners and raising slogans demanding justice. The protesters subsequently submitted a memorandum to the concerned authorities, urging immediate action in the Hokrani case.

The protest comes amid renewed demands from Dalit organisations across Karnataka for stronger action against atrocities and better protection of vulnerable communities. Recent protests in other parts of the state have similarly called for impartial investigations and strict legal action in cases involving alleged atrocities against Dalits.
