Alwar, Rajasthan, June 6, 2026 — A viral video showing former BJP MLA Gyandev (or Gyan Dev) Ahuja allegedly slapping a Christian pastor named Rajkumar inside court premises has sparked widespread outrage and debate in Rajasthan. The incident occurred on Friday, June 5, as police produced the pastor in court in connection with allegations of religious conversion activities.

### The Incident
According to multiple eyewitness accounts and video footage, Pastor Rajkumar was seated on a bench outside the court when Ahuja approached him. Ahuja was heard confronting the pastor, reportedly saying words to the effect of, “Despite being a Hindu, you have become a pastor?” and urging police to take him on remand before allegedly slapping him.

Police personnel present at the scene quickly intervened to control the situation and escorted the pastor away. The court subsequently granted one-day police remand for Rajkumar. City Circle Officer Angad Sharma confirmed that a video of the incident had surfaced and stated that senior officials were taking the matter seriously. An investigation has been assigned, and further legal action will follow the probe.

Ahuja, when speaking to media after the event, defended his presence at the court, claiming he had come to request police remand for the accused. He alleged that Rajkumar was involved in a “racket,” receiving money from religious groups and conducting conversions in the area. He further called for identifying those providing shelter to the pastor.

### Background of the Case
The incident stems from events on Thursday, June 4, in Alwar’s Tanwar Colony. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers alleged that Rajkumar, a resident of Delhi who has been visiting Alwar for the past four to five years, was conducting prayer meetings under the guise of healing illnesses and was involved in religious conversions. They claimed objectionable religious literature was found and that remarks were made against Hindu deities.

A complaint was filed by a local resident, leading to Rajkumar’s arrest. During the commotion at the prayer meeting, a crowd allegedly assaulted him, tearing his clothes. A separate video of that thrashing also circulated online. Police stated that around 15 people present at the gathering fled the scene.

Rajkumar has reportedly told police that he organizes prayer gatherings and Bible readings related to Jesus Christ, describing it as a matter of personal faith. He also runs a clothing shop in Delhi. VHP activists claim he admitted during questioning to converting around 15 individuals in the area, though police are still investigating these allegations.

### Ahuja’s Profile and Past Controversies
Gyandev Ahuja, former BJP MLA from the Ramgarh constituency in Alwar, is no stranger to controversy. He was expelled from the BJP in 2025 after a video showed him sprinkling Gangajal to “purify” a Ram temple following a visit by Congress Dalit leader Tikaram Jully. The party had distanced itself from his actions at the time.

He has previously made headlines for other provocative statements, including remarks related to cow vigilantism in earlier years.

### Reactions and Broader Implications
The slapping incident has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, with many highlighting the breach of court decorum and the principle of due process. Critics argue that labeling someone as guilty of conversion before a court verdict sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the rule of law.

Supporters of the former MLA and Hindu organizations view the action as reflective of strong local sentiments against alleged conversions, particularly targeting vulnerable communities. The case has reignited debates on religious conversions, anti-conversion laws (Rajasthan has had discussions around such legislation), and the role of vigilante actions versus legal processes.

As of now, no formal FIR against Ahuja for the slapping has been publicly confirmed in reports, though police have initiated an investigation. The matter remains sensitive, with authorities maintaining heightened vigilance in the area to prevent further unrest.

This episode underscores the ongoing tensions around religious identity and conversions in parts of Rajasthan, where accusations often lead to swift community mobilizations. Legal proceedings against Rajkumar and the probe into the court incident are expected to continue, with calls for maintaining peace and allowing the judiciary to handle such cases impartially.
