Bidar, Karnataka, April 12, 2026 — Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the 40th State Conference of the Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association (KWJA) here on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Jhira Convention Hall in Bidar. The event was jointly organized by the Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association and the Bidar District Working Journalists’ Association.
The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister and Bidar district in-charge Eshwar B. Khandre, Minister Rahim Khan, and other senior leaders and officials.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured journalists that the government is attentive to the difficulties faced by media persons across the state. He specifically mentioned that the government would continue and strengthen welfare measures, including medical insurance and free bus passes for journalists, particularly those working in rural areas.
The CM emphasized the important role of journalists in society and urged them to uphold constitutional ideals while cautioning against speculative or sensational journalism, which he described as potentially dangerous for society. He encouraged media professionals to focus on constructive reporting and contribute to social reform beyond mere dissemination of information.
Ministers Eshwar Khandre and Rahim Khan also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the contributions of journalists and the state government’s commitment to their welfare.
The two-day conference is expected to discuss various issues concerning working journalists, including professional challenges, safety, and welfare schemes. An exhibition and other cultural programs were also part of the event.
Journalists from across Karnataka participated in large numbers, making it a significant gathering for the media fraternity in the state.
Further sessions of the conference are scheduled for Sunday, with discussions on key demands and resolutions related to the working conditions of journalists.
