Hyderabad, March 6, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday urged government employees to take a leading role in strengthening the state’s economy by strictly enforcing tax collection, cracking down on evasion, and ensuring welfare schemes reach only eligible beneficiaries without any irregularities.

Addressing a felicitation meeting organised by the Madiga Employees Coordination Committee to thank the government for implementing Scheduled Caste (SC) categorisation, the Chief Minister highlighted the severe financial constraints facing the state. He noted that over 1,000 government employees are retiring every month, requiring the state to mobilise around ₹1,000 crore solely for retirement benefits and pensions.

“Government employees must focus on improving tax collection and act against evaders to strengthen the State’s finances,” Reddy said, stressing that the administration is grappling with tight fiscal conditions. He appealed to employees to act as the “eyes and ears” of the government, monitor revenue streams effectively, and prevent leakages so that funds can be directed towards development and welfare.

The Chief Minister explained that the state’s monthly expenditure on salaries, pensions, and schemes is substantial, while revenue generation remains under pressure. He reiterated that the current financial challenges stem from the high-interest debts and unpaid arrears left behind by the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime.

While acknowledging the justified demand for SC categorisation — making Telangana the first state to implement it — Reddy called on the Madiga community and employees to remain united and support the government’s efforts in rebuilding the economy. He assured continued commitment to social justice, education reforms, and upliftment of backward communities, including extending opportunities in remote areas despite fiscal limitations.

The appeal comes amid the Congress government’s broader “Telangana Rising” vision, which aims to transform the state into a $1-trillion economy in the coming years and eventually a $3-trillion economy by 2047 through infrastructure, industry, and efficient governance. In a balancing gesture, the government recently announced ₹1.2 crore accident insurance cover and comprehensive health schemes for employees, teachers, and pensioners — measures that have been warmly welcomed by various unions.

Reddy’s message underscores the administration’s strategy of partnering with its workforce to overcome economic hurdles, boost revenue, and deliver welfare without pilferage. Officials present at the meeting said the Chief Minister’s directives will be implemented across departments to support the ongoing 99-day action plan and long-term growth goals.
