Chaos Erupts in Kaimur: Minor Clash Mars Bihar's Historic Peaceful Polls as NDA Claims Sweeping Victory

While unverified reports on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) spoke of "chaotic NDA victory celebrations" spilling into violence across five rural blocks in districts like Kaimur, Rohtas, and Bhojpur, official sources clarified no such widespread unrest occurred. Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, who oversaw a massive security blanket during counting with over 100,000 personnel statewide, stated: "We anticipated high emotions post-results but enforced a zero-tolerance policy. Isolated incidents like Kaimur were contained swiftly, with no need for curfews." Earlier phases saw stray reports of clashes, such as an attack on Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha's convoy in Lakhisarai during polling, but these did not escalate post-voting.

Patna, November 15, 2025 – In a rare blemish on what has been hailed as Bihar's most peaceful assembly elections in four decades, a mob of agitated supporters clashed with security forces in the rural Kaimur district late Friday, hurling stones and setting a government vehicle ablaze over delays in announcing results from the Ramgarh constituency. Three paramilitary personnel were injured in the skirmish, prompting heightened security measures, though no curfew was imposed as initially rumored in social media reports.

The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. at the Bazar Samiti Mohania campus, the designated counting center for Ramgarh, a rural assembly seat in eastern Bihar's Rohtas region. Supporters of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Satish Kumar Singh Yadav, who ultimately clinched a razor-thin victory by 30 votes, accused local Election Commission of India (ECI) officials of tampering with the outcome to favor the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contender Ashok Kumar Singh. Singh Yadav secured 72,689 votes, including 307 postal ballots, against Singh's 72,659.

"The delay fueled suspicions of foul play," said Kaimur Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla, who confirmed the attack left three Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) jawans with minor injuries from stone pelting. "The mob attempted to storm the center and torched an official vehicle, but reinforcements dispersed them without further escalation." No arrests were reported immediately, but Shukla added that investigations are underway to identify instigators.

Eyewitnesses described a tense atmosphere as hundreds gathered outside the center, chanting slogans against the ECI and BJP. Videos circulating on social media showed flames engulfing the vehicle and security personnel using batons to control the crowd. Local BJP leaders dismissed the violence as "fringe elements" trying to undermine the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) resounding triumph, which saw the coalition surge to over 200 seats in the 243-member assembly—far exceeding exit poll predictions.

This isolated flare-up stands in stark contrast to the overall tranquility of the 2025 polls, which recorded zero voter deaths, zero re-pollings, and minimal disruptions across two phases of voting on November 6 and 11. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar praised the process as a "model for the nation," crediting stringent security deployments and voter awareness drives for curbing the booth-capturing and booth violence that plagued past elections—like the 1985 polls, which claimed 63 lives and necessitated re-polling in 156 booths.

The NDA's landslide—led by BJP's 142 seats, JD(U)'s 56, and allies like Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)'s 25—has been attributed to a potent mix of welfare schemes, infrastructure pushes, and a consolidated anti-incumbency wave against the opposition Mahagathbandhan (MGB), which slumped to just 35 seats combined for RJD (22), Congress (8), and others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing jubilant crowds in Patna, celebrated the verdict as a rejection of "jungle raj" fears: "This is the same Bihar once scarred by Maoist shadows and electoral bloodbaths. Today, democracy thrives."

Opposition leaders, however, decried the results as "manipulated," with RJD's Tejashwi Yadav vowing a legal challenge and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi labeling the polls "unfair from the start." In Kaimur, BSP's Singh Yadav urged calm: "Victory is sweet, but peace is paramount. Let us honor the mandate without bitterness."

As NDA allies convene to finalize the next government— with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tipped to retain his post—the focus shifts to healing divides in Bihar's polarized heartland. Authorities have ramped up patrols in sensitive rural pockets, ensuring the festive spirit of Diwali isn't overshadowed by electoral aftershocks.
