The election for the post of president of the Sampla Municipal Committee has intensified after rebel leaders refused to withdraw their nominations and continued in the fray as Independent candidates despite efforts by the ruling BJP to bring them in line.

With the nomination and symbol allotment process completed, candidates have stepped up campaigning, reaching out to voters for support. Taking a strict view of the rebellion, the party expelled three leaders for six years, terming their action a “serious violation of party discipline and organisational dignity.”

In an expulsion letter issued on Wednesday, district president Ranvir Singh Dhaka said three party workers were contesting against the officially authorised candidate, describing it as gross indiscipline. The notice added that such actions were unacceptable and contrary to the party’s principles.

Confirming the move, Rohtak Mayor and party co-incharge for the Sampla election Ram Avtar Valmiki said Anil Kumar, Sudhir Ohlyan and Manjeet Sain had been expelled with immediate effect.

The action is being seen as a strong signal from the leadership to curb dissent, particularly during elections when rebel candidates can dent the prospects of official nominees.
